Panoram Exhibits Visual Solutions
for Defense and
Homeland Security Application
May
6, 2003 - Wash., D.C.
Panoram Technologies, a leading manufacturer and integrator
of advanced visualization systems, demonstrated a sampling
of their latest offerings today at TechNet International,
a premier defense-industry showcase sponsored by AFCEA (the
Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association). Panoram
exhibited their new Digital Imaging Table, an ultra-resolution
"electronic map table", and their new MK3, a field-deployable
micro command center that features an immersive display mounted
into a ruggedized flight case. In keeping with the theme of
this year's show, "Homeland Security: IT in the new world,
9-11 and beyond", these display technologies enhance
the speed and accuracy of critical decision-making in applications
that include command & control, intelligence, surveillance,
disaster management and law enforcement.
The
Digital Imaging Table (DIT) is a 65-inch display system that
allows a team of up to six individuals to simultaneously view
extremely high-resolution imagery, such as satellite photos,
maps, GIS data, military assets and other digital information.
The table-orientation of the DIT (inspired by the "map
tables" and "sand tables" used for centuries
by military commanders) promotes a unique form of human-data
interaction and collaboration. By standing at the table and
facing the other members of the team, users of the DIT become
more actively involved in the decision-making process. Unlike
with a wall-oriented display, users get up-close to the imagery.
Also, the DIT offers a natural orientation for much of the
data used in defense-applications, which is frequently downward
looking. With a resolution approaching that of paper (2300
X 1840 = 4.23 million pixels), the DIT produces images at
a level of detail and clarity that is unprecedented for collaborative
displays. Furthermore, it accommodates a multitude of video
and computer video sources, making it ideal for "data
fusion." The DIT can be installed into an existing facility
without facility modifications, and can even be placed in
the midst of an operations center, allowing for quick and
easy access by users from nearby workstations
For defense and homeland security tasks that must be carried
out in the field, Panoram's MK3 kit offers the advantages
of immersive display technology in a ruggedized, quick-deploy
form factor. The kit includes an integrated display featuring
a wrap-around array of flat panel LCD monitors offering 43.5"
x 11.5" of screen real estate and 3.9 Megapixels (3840
x 1024) of resolution. The display provides 12 discreet computer
video, S-video and video inputs, as well as a complete sound
system with audio inputs, mic/headphone jacks and built-in
speakers. This combination of vast screen real estate and
multiple inputs enhances the users' ability to manage massive
amounts of data from a variety of sources. Systems can even
be set up to accommodate multiple security level data in a
deployable compact unit. The display is shock-mounted into
a tough, weather-resistant flight case that converts into
a bench and table stand in less than ten minutes. The MK3
is perfect for tent-based tactical command centers, WMD first
responders, fort security, UAV surveillance support and a
myriad of other applications.
Full demonstrations of these state-of-the-art display solutions
will take place throughout TechNet at Panoram booth # 1046,
May 6-8 at the new Washington, D.C. Convention Center.
Panoram Technologies, Inc. manufactures advanced extreme-resolution
display systems for facilities, workgroup and desktop applications.
Panoram's display systems create collaborative visualization
environments that enable project teams to achieve unprecedented
levels of productivity and effectiveness. Panoram's visualization
systems are currently being used throughout the world for
oil and gas exploration, military and government applications,
manufacturing in aerospace and automotive, as well as for
universities and scientific computing.
