Panoram Exhibits New Blending & Warping Technology
at I/ITSEC 2002
Panoram Technologies has partnered with Sun Microsystems
(Booth #376) at I/ITSEC 2002 to show off the PanoMaker V,
its latest multi-projector array processing technology for
training and simulation applications. The PanoMaker V not
only features the fifth-generation of Panoram's patented Video
PanoramÒ edge-blending technology, but also offers
a multitude of other important capabilities, including Pure
Digital I/O, image warping and a new Black Level Matching
technology. These features make it ideal for curved screen
projection systems used extensively in training simulators
and are particularly important with the industry migration
of large-screen stereographic displays from CRT-based projection
to digital projection.
"The PanoMaker V is based on a new technology platform
called the Pure Digital I/O series that forms the basis of
an entire generation of high-bandwidth, high-performance video
processors," says Theo Mayer, Panoram President and CEO.
"While the PanoMaker V addresses many of the existing
challenges seen in training and simulation displays, the platform
will allow us to address unique future challenges. We expect
to work closely with other companies to apply this technology."
The warping capability of the PanoMaker V is perfect for
curved screen applications, but is also important for non-curved
screen applications to adjust overlap region aberrations caused
by lens distortion and imperfect projector placement. The
Black Level Matching feature optimizes any multi-projector
blended image by managing darkness in the overlap area.
The PanoMaker V offers both Digital (DVI) and Analog RGBHV
(HD-15) inputs and outputs, with each rack unit handling two
image processing channels for non-stereographic applications
or one high bandwidth channel for fast frame-rate stereo.
Each PanoMaker V unit is IP addressable, enabling all channels
to be controlled using an Ethernet hub.
Additional features of the PanoMaker V include advanced gamma
control, dynamically allocated filtering, external sync and
software upgrade-ability.
