TGS, Inc. uses Panoram Technologies Display to Provide Desktop Tiled Environments - Offering a low cost alternative to the immersive environment

SIGGRAPH, Los Angeles, CA - August 14, 2001 -TGS, Inc., a leader in the development of object-oriented developer toolkits for 3D graphics and Panoram Technologies, a manufacturer of unique, extreme resolution display systems, invite you to see both of their new products in action at the TGS booth #425 during the SIGGRAPH conference.

TGS will be highlighting its new release of Open Inventor 3.0. Open Inventor is designed specifically to use OpenGL for graphics rendering and is highly optimized to take advantage of OpenGL accelerators. It provides the power and functionality of OpenGL at an object-oriented level. Open Inventor 3.0 features 7 value-added extensions that allow the user the flexibility of working with only the selected functionality that they are interested in. Other features included with Open Inventor 3.0 include Double Precision Data, Stereo Viewing, NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines), Large Model Visualization, Collision Detection, Beveled Geometry, HTML Image Maps, 3D Textures, and VRML Support.

You will be able to see Open Inventor 3.0 running on a PV290 DSK from Panoram Technologies. This newly introduced multi-paneled display will be run from a Sun Ultra 80 using three Expert3D Lite graphics boards. These new displays are designed for single power users or small 2-3 person collaborative groups.
Panoram offers 3 classes of display solutions. They are:

• The large-scale Facility class includes curved screen, as well as flat screen front and rear projection displays.
• The mid-size Workgroup class also includes curved screen as well as front and rear projection displays. These solutions install into smaller office areas and conference rooms without any facility modifications.
  
• The newly introduced Desktop class, including the PV290 DSK, dramatically lowers the entry cost for visualization and is designed to greatly enhance the personal productivity of computer power users from engineers to technical workers to finance to data mining analysts to electronic media producers.

The combination of these two new innovative products will allow industries including oil/gas exploration & production, product design, manufacturing, scientific laboratories, process plant design, military and civilian Command & Control, to view and manipulate their data quickly and economically in a truly immersive environment.
